This is one of those prints where the pictures just don't do it justice. The height of this piece mixed with the lush dark blues really makes it one of my favorite pieces to witness in person.

Chang'E is the "moon goddess" in Chinese mythology, celebrated during the Chinese new year in mid-autumn. She was married to a heroic archer. He had been rewarded by the gods with an elixir for immortality, which he planned to share with his beloved wife. Chang'E was guarding the elixir when an evil apprentice of the archer, greedy for power, attempted to steal it. Before he could, Chang'E swallowed the potion herself, and was rocketed to the moon, destined to live alone, for eternity. Versions of the story mention a rabbit as her only companion... and I imagined that rabbit monstrous in size...

It is said that Chang'E is able to gaze down longingly at her loved ones on earth, while never being able to physically join them. In an abstract way, this mirrors how we engage with the world today ~ through the screens of our gadgets ~while experiencing community in real physical space less and less...

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:

"Her Infinite Jest" was part of an exhibition that was called "The Old Gods of New Berlin". I painted 5 images to go with 5 strange myths.

This project merges my visual work as "My Pet Skeleton" with my musical collaboration with "Johnny Hollow". It culminated in a cd package that contains 5 paintings to go with 5 songs. Each print comes with a signed copy of "The Old Gods of New Berlin" CD/Book that was painstakingly designed and formatted by yours truly.  (see flip through video below)

Each print is signed and numbered by yours truly and is created with archival pigment inks on fine heavyweight, museum quality paper.

Each piece will be carefully packed inside an acid free sleeve and fully protected by a VERY thick craft tube.
