I created this piece at the beginning of an isolation period during the Covid19 pandemic. Our little homes have become our entire worlds as we wait for better news. This bizarre bone cage floating in black space represents our fear of an unknown future (skull blinded by the moth) as we take refuge to protect ourselves and each other. The flora and fauna inside it is meant to acknowledge our perseverance as we move through this strange new world. The two birds with a string between them are meant to serve as a reminder that we are not alone… even though sometimes it may feel that way.
This original mixed media piece was created with original photography, image transfer techniques, gold foil, and hand drawn/scratch techniques on birch wood canvas. The moth has been inlaid with gold foil beneath the transfer.
The wood canvas is wrapped with a slick custom black frame that has a contemporary look. It has a kind of shadow box effect which really pulls focus onto the work (which is protected with a UV satin glaze) and does not require glass. This piece also comes with an official certificate of authenticity that is signed by Vincent.
